Gala MacsMacadamia Plantations

Gala Macs is committed to be an industry leader in the production of macadamias through modern precision agronomy processes as widely adopted by international world standards. This, amongst others, includes its own nurseries, implementation of responsible Soil and Water Resource Management, Integrated Pest Management procedures, automated irrigation and fertigation delivery systems, new dehusking and curing facilities and cool rooms for the proper storage of the nuts. This is all operated and managed by a dedicated and experienced work force.

To ensure maximum yield potential, Gala Macs has installed automated irrigation and fertigation delivery systems at over 1,400 hectares and with the aim of reaching 100% of its plantings under irrigation within the next two years. These units allow precision water and nutrient delivery tailored to the needs of the tree which promotes optimal growth and yield and at the same time conserve valuable water consumption.

Also, Gala Macs has introduced bees into its orchards which will enrich and enhance pollination of its trees. Gala Macs is targeting to reach 4,000 beehives this year. It aims to reach at least 8,000 bee hives in the next two years. Gala Macs is managing the bee hives and the production of honey, together with members of the surrounding Communities, thereby integrating them into an active and valuable partnership.

Gala Macs started planting macadamias in 2012 and has as at November 2023, planted a total of 2,050 ha under macadamias comprising of 10 main varieties. Macadamias come into significant production after seven years of planting but Gala Macs strategy in irrigating and applying modern techniques will result in earlier producing trees.

Approximately 50% of its plantation is 7 years and older and production capacity will be increasing over the next years as more trees reach full production capacity.  Full production capacity is reached after 10 years.

Gala Macs is on target to produce 2,500 tons of dry nut in shell in the 2024 harvest. Gala Macs is expected to reach full production capacity by 2032 where its expected annual production will be approximately 9,000 tons of dry nut in shell.
